This is my first ever post on my first ever blog.
For a long time I’ve wanted to have somewhere I can record my own thoughts and experiences of wine and how it relates to my other love in life – food! For me one of the greatest misconceptions of wine is that it should always be judged on how it tastes by itself. If an easy-drinking wine is what you’re after then that’s fair enough but this isn’t what wine is all about. Don’t get me wrong, easy-drinking wines have their place and sometimes are just the thing but it’s a bit like having grilled chicken everyday for the rest of your life; you’d be rather missing out on the array of other wonderful foods out there.
So, my intention with this blog is to explore the world of wine and food matching. My ‘mission’ if you will is to give myself the arduous task of trying wines that may easily get overlooked by the casual drinker. This will not so much be a blog for serious ‘wine-buffs’ but for almost everyone else I know who likes wine, drinks a lot of it, but would like to know a little more about it. The focus will be on affordable wines that are easily accessible from both supermarkets and independent retailers. I will always try, where relevant, to relate these wines back to food with suggestions of dishes and recipes that will compliment them.
My hope is that this will be a tool to help people explore their own tastes in wine, to give them the confidence to try wines outside their comfort zones, to think of wine as a way to compliment food and vice versa. There will be wine reviews, restaurant reviews, recipes, food matching tips and I’m sure lots of mistakes along the way.
Please bear with me!!
